Brave Conversation Workshops

Workshops that Build Psychologically Safe Cultures

What’s brave about a conversation? Pretty much everything.

From engaging with diverse viewpoints, to learning how to shed biases and safely share our own beliefs, a simple conversation can be the catalyst for sizable change.

Delivered as engaging, interactive half-day workshops, Habitus’ Brave Conversations programs empower teams to drive real change through impactful diversity and inclusion training. Delivered by legends, our leaders are industry experts, scientists, academics and all-around excellent people.

Participants learn to actively challenge systems of inequality and cultivate psychological safety in the workplace, sparking authentic dialogue and growth.

Whether delivered online or face-to-face, attendees gain practical tools to help navigate complex conversations and embrace the full spectrum of human differences. Our workshops centre on shared humanity and celebrate human diversity, fostering deeper connections, community, and collaboration.

The result? More engaged, resilient teams that perform at their best.

Our Conversations Are A Glance

Men After #MeToo

The #MeToo movement saw masculinity become synonymous with toxicity, but what does that mean for men? The vilification of men and their behaviours created a vacuum, leaving us void of positive male representation, and without a model for how to behave, leaving many men unsure of their roles and how to connect with others in a healthy way.

Habitus’ Men After #MeToo program explores masculinity beyond stereotypes, helping build respectful, supportive connections rooted in empathy, in an effort to combat toxic masculinity and foster diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

I’m Not Racist, But…

Nothing good comes after this sentence, right? While most people are aware that overt racism is a bad thing, sometimes that’s not quite good enough. Habtus’ I’m Not Racist, But… workshop empowers teams to move beyond passive acceptance to create a truly inclusive workplace culture that challenges racial inequities.

Individuals will learn to tackle complex topics and challenge systems that perpetuate and uphold racial inequities, working towards creating a psychological safe place where everyone feels valued.

You Can’t Say That!

Ever held your tongue for fear of what the reaction might be? In the age of cancel culture, we’ve all but lost the ability to have honest, forward conversations for fear of misinterpretation. Whether it's offering feedback, genuine disagreement or simply approaching a topic from a different viewpoint, many people avoid difficult conversations for fear of the response they might be met with.

Habitus’ You Can’t Say That workshop tackles this head on, guiding teams to engage meaningfully in discussions around privilege, power, and respect, while expressing their opinions in a considered and considerate way to psychologically safe workplaces that balance empathy with open, honest dialogue.

Why Our Framework Works

The Brave Conversations Framework is steeped in anthropological principles, drawing on diverse cultural conventions to spark genuine cultural transformation.

Here’s why it’s effective:

Builds Trust and Inclusion: Implements inclusive practices to create safe, honest spaces for discussing tough topics.

Empowers Leaders: Looking at leadership with a different lens helps develop practical skills for navigating challenging conversation in everyday life.

Drives Cultural Transformation: Shifting dynamics and perspectives to encourage positive change and diversity in the workplace.

Strengthens Team Building: Deepening understandings and creating connections through meaningful, engaged communication.

Had such an epic training session about Cancel Culture. So grateful for the range and depth that we navigated on the day. Having everything grounded in an anthropological lens gave the experiential nature of the workshop so much rigour.
Al Green - The Man Cave
Monty hosted a brilliant 3 hour workshop for our remote global team online and created a safe space to tackle the difficult subject of systematic racism and quickly built trust with the team to deliver an outstanding session. It was thought-provoking, engaging and helped our team connect.
Stacey Quilton - Work180
I loved the openness, the feeling that we had all been heard, the opportunity to delve into a part of ourselves that we wouldn't usually share with others, and the way it got everyone talking, expressing and listening. It was engaging, interactive and fun.

Brave Conversations Framework

Habitus’ Brave Conversations Framework helps to facilitate difficult or sensitive conversations in a structured and supportive way. The Framework can be applied across a range of socially sensitive topics including race, gender, and mental health, to encourage the development of psychologically safe spaces, while fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.  The Framework supports diverse perspectives, develops strong connections and champions  empathy, to help build a culture where participants can express their views without fear of escalation, turning difficult topics into opportunities for connection and growth.

Brave Conversations is rooted in anthropological principles, academia and research, transforming theory into practical tools. By increasing understanding and empathy amongst participants, Habitus’ cultural awareness and diversity training work towards fostering psychological safety in the workplace, helping to create a culture that embraces open communication.

The Brave Conversations Framework explores four perspectives, allowing participants to approach challenging topics through a variety of lenses:

1

Head

Looking at the facts, data, and statistics about the issue at hand.
2

Heart

Exploring individual experiences and feelings about the issue.
3

Gut

Discussing the ethical or moral implications of the issue.
4

Hands

Developing action plans and making commitments to specific steps to address the issue.
